The Volkswagen ID. Buzz wins the 2023 Utility of the Year award!

On the sidelines of the IAA Transportation show in Hanover, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz has just won the award for the utility of the year (International Van of the Year) 2023!

Even before its official market launch, the new Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo has just been awarded the prestigious prize « International Van of the Year 2023 » (IVOTY)which rewards the best utility vehicle of the year. This award was presented at the “Stars of the Year” opening ceremony of the Verband der Automobilindustrie (VDA), the German association of the automotive industry, on the sidelines of the opening of the IAA Transportation fair in Hannover.

Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo: a prestigious jury

IVOTY Chairman Jarlath Sweeney presented the award on behalf of the prestigious IVOTY Jury, made up of 34 international commercial vehicle journalists: “It’s not so often that a totally new van concept arrives and gets so much attention in the market. Congratulations to the development team at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles for creating this unique vehicle”he said on this occasion.

The Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo received 110 points, just 10 points ahead of its nearest competitor, the new Ford Pro E-Transit. The Renault Kangoo E-Tech Van, Nissan Townstar Zero-Emission and Mercedes-Benz eCitan tied for third place: this year, the podium is entirely made up of electric utility vehicles. Other shortlisted candidates also included Fiat Professional’s new Doblò and Scudo.

Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo: more than 13,700 orders

The Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo thus succeeds the Renault Kangoo Van and Mercedes-Benz eCitan, which won the 2022 International Van of the Year (IVOTY) award last year. This is the 31th time that this election takes place for the best commercial vehicle of the year: this year, the jury assessed the contribution of the candidate vehicles to the efficiency, safety, durability and environmental standards of the vehicle sector light utilities. To be eligible, the candidate vehicle must be new, in series production at the end of the year for which it receives the prize, and present a significant technological innovation.

To date, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz recorded more than 13,700 orders, half of which for the Cargo version. The model pays homage to the mythical Combi, but was developed exclusively to be equipped with a 100% electric engine: it thus joins the family of 100% electric ID models from the Volkswagen brand. It will also be delivered to its customers with a neutral carbon footprint.
