The new Renault Austral unveils its prices and its range

Even before arriving in the concessions, the Austral is already under pressure: it will have the difficult task of replacing the Kadjar, whose sales have not weighed heavily against the juggernaut of the C-SUV segment, namely the Peugeot 3008 Like the Nissan Qashqai, the new Austral is based on the CMF-CD platform launched in 2021, and inaugurates a new “sensual tech” design that mixes curves and taut lines.

The different levels of equipment are therefore divided into five finishes: Equilibre, Techno, Techno Esprit Alpine, Iconic and Iconic Esprit Alpine.

Finishing Techno is enhanced by styling cues such as 19-inch Komah black diamond-cut alloy wheels, leatherette/cloth upholstery and custom mood lighting, as well as a 1/3-2/3 sliding bench seat with center armrest and the function easy break. It offers the OpenR Link system as standard on a 12.3-inch screen with Google connectivity and services, including Google Maps navigation.

Four engines

Renault has developed a new generation E-Tech Full Hybrid engine, 160 or 200 hp, on the Austral. This engine comprises a turbocharged 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, combined with an electric motor itself powered by a lithium-ion battery (2 kWh/400 V). The transmission is based on a multimode gearbox offering 15 combinations, including two in 100% electric mode.

Two Mild Hybrid engines complete the range of 100% hybrid engines.

The Mild Hybrid Advanced, offered for the first time in the Renault range, combines the new 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged direct injection petrol engine with a 48 V lithium-ion battery and a starter-alternator. With this 130 hp engine equipped with a manual transmission, the Renault Austral should split a consumption of 5.2 l/100 km on average. For the manufacturer, it arises as “an alternative to the latest generation diesels”.

Finally, the Mild Hybrid 12 V engine, developing 160 hp, is based on a 1.3 l four-cylinder gasoline engine turbocharged with direct injection. It is available with an automatic transmission and offers an announced combined fuel consumption of 6.2 l/100 km.
