Oslo Electric Vehicle Show: The Timely Event

Norway refused twice and by referendum to enter the European Union. However, since this morning and for three days we have only been talking about Europe in Oslo. The traditional EV (Electric Vehicle Symposium) electric car show in Oslo has never attracted as many visitors from other EU countries as this year. And for good reason, since last Wednesday was voted in Strasbourg the future directive banning the production and sale of new thermal cars from January 1, 2035.

So, all the professionals from the 27 countries concerned took the road to Oslo to see how a country where 64% of new cars sold last year were 100% electric, manages the phenomenon. A rush confirmed by the management of the show, who admits, with a big smile, to have recorded an influx of ticket reservations in recent days. However, in the aisles of the event which is spread over three halls, there is no jostling on the stands.

It must be said that the novelties are not plethora at the Norwegian show. Only the Vietnamese Vinfast arrives in force with two firsts: its enormous 5.12 m VF9 SUV and its all-new VF7 compact unveiled here exclusively. Two novelties which we will show you around the owner very quickly. Other brands, such as the Chinese Ora or Wey are also trying the European adventure with an interesting city car with a neo retro look for the first and a large ultra-chrome and statutory SUV for the second.

But where is Tesla?

Apart from these few novelties, brands like MG offer their models Marvel and the station wagon MG5 already known, as Polestarstill invisible in France and exhibiting its model 2 in Oslo. Its parent company Volvo also came as a neighbor with his C40 electric. On the other hand, we can walk through the three halls of the show: impossible to get our hands on the stand Tesla.

With her Model 3the American nevertheless achieved the tour de force of taking the lead in sales in Norway to individuals (in France, this title goes to the Dacia Sandero). Resting on its laurels, the brand of Elon Musk did not even consider it useful to split from a stand, contenting itself with making two cars available to the organizer who organizes tests intended for the public on the roads. around. It is therefore at the back of a shed that you have to go find the star of the show who refuses to show up.

Conferences attract more visitors than the stands themselves.

But if the builders’ stands do not create riots, other exhibitors attract people. And in particular manufacturers of cables, public charging stations or private Wallboxes. This project manager from a large French region comes out of the stand of one of these companies and already has his hands full of documentation. But he does not come to do his shopping, “ I observe and document myself, so that when companies offer me their services, I know what I am talking about”. He had prepared his arrival for a long time, well before the vote in Strasbourg.

This is not always the case for listeners to the various conferences, which are full and risk refusing people until the end of the event scheduled for Wednesday evening. Dedicated to developments in fast charging, the electrification of public transport, battery research, they seem to interest Europeans well beyond the models exhibited at the show and which, for many, they already know.
