Mercedes has presented its latest addition to the AMG family, the C63 SE Performance, equipped with a formidable hybrid engine, from F1.
Mercedes inaugurates this Wednesday its brand new family sports car, the C63 AMG. An important model for the German brand which is in direct competition with Audi (RS4) and BMW (M3) on this market. Mercedes has seen big for its new C63 AMG (available in sedan or station wagon), now equipped with a hybrid engine, which is directly inspired by technology from F1. If the V8 is no longer offered, this new C63 AMG SE Performance has something to seduce.
A slightly redesigned design
Regarding the exterior appearance, several modifications have been made. The front part is already 5 cm longer than the previous generation, and the fenders have also been widened. Overall, the new C63 AMG is 8cm longer and 7.6cm wider. The wheelbase increases by one centimeter. Mercedes indicates that these new dimensions bring more character to the bodywork with a more stretched and more muscular line.
Other significant exterior elements include a small air outlet on the bonnet, accompanied by the traditional AMG grille, fitted with vertical struts. The body has been slightly redesigned to improve airflow. In particular the presence of« Air Panels » electronically controlled, located behind the grille and in the front apron. Note also that the AMG logo will now be available from the entry level.
On the rear part, there is a double exhaust outlet accompanied by a new diffuser. A spoiler painted in black, and integrated into the trunk lid, was also installed by Mercedes. There is also the E Performance badge, which will indicate the presence of hybrid propulsion.
Finally, the new C63 SE Performance is fitted with 19-inch or 20-inch light alloy wheels depending on the versions chosen. Mercedes also says that several color customizations will be available on this model. Three additional packs will accentuate the sporting effect (AMG Carbon Fiber Exterior Pack, AMG Night Pack and AMG Aerodynamics Pack).
The increasingly modern interior
Inside, the sporty aspect is immediately apparent with the presence of AMG sports bucket seats. Several color and stitching configurations will be available for the front seats. There are also rear seats with a very elaborate design.
Mercedes also installed the latest AMG twin-spoke steering wheel. It benefits from new controls that are more accessible and more visible. It will now be possible to control the different driving functions or the different driving modes without letting go of the steering wheel. The driver will also be able to control the regeneration of the hybrid propulsion via the steering wheel.
Finally, the new C63 SE Performance receives the brand new Mercedes multimedia system, called MBUX. The latter notably includes functions specific to the car’s hybrid engine. The instrument cluster will also be customizable with several different display styles available. Several high-quality graphs on the multimedia display show details such as the power flow of the entire drive system, engine speed, or power.
A head-up display will also be available and will display the information retrieved by the systems Race et SuperSport developed by AMG.
C63 SE Performance, an unprecedented hybrid engine
It is under the hood that the sports family from Mercedes evolves the most. Finished the mythical V8, place now at a 2.0 liter four-cylinder engines. This engine block has an electrically assisted turbocharger. The power of this heat engine is 476 hp and 545 Nm of torque. Mercedes talks about the four-cylinder engine “the most powerful in the world”.
This thermal block is accompanied by an electric motor equipped with a 70 kW battery for a power of 204 hp. The total power of this C63 SE Performance therefore reaches 680 hp and 1,020 Nm of torque.
In order to allow better traction, Mercedes has installed all-wheel drive AMG Performance 4MATIC+ fitted with rear-wheel steering, a first in this segment.
A 9-speed gearbox with SpeedShift technology from AMG will be available. It will be accompanied by a second two-speed gearbox which will be coupled to the electric motor.
Several technologies offered for more precise driving
This hybrid engine was directly developed with the F1 department at Mercedes-AMG. In addition to this impressive hybrid engine, there are other elements for even sportier driving. First of all, 8 different driving modes will be available (Electric, Comfort, Battery Hold, Sport, Sport+, RACE, Slippery and Individual). They will allow you to take advantage of all the capabilities of the vehicle according to your wishes.
There is also a new adaptive damping system called AMG Ride Control. It will allow optimal road holding.
